Domaine de Marcoux Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf du Pape reveals raspberry, cherry and spice with silky tannins and old vine depth.
Domaine de Marcoux is one of Châteauneuf du Pape's most revered family estates, with the Armenier family farming these historic vineyards for generations. Today Catherine Armenier and Sophie Estevenin continue the estate's biodynamic philosophy, producing wines of purity, elegance and remarkable longevity that have become benchmarks for the appellation.
Vieilles Vignes is crafted from some of the estate's oldest Grenache vines, many planted more than a century ago. Rooted deep in the famous galets roulés and sandy soils of Châteauneuf du Pape, these ancient vines produce tiny yields of intensely flavoured fruit. The outstanding 2023 vintage captures the harmony between richness, freshness and the unmistakable savoury complexity that defines this legendary region.
The colour is a deep ruby crimson with youthful purple highlights. Aromas of black raspberry, ripe cherry and plum are layered with wild thyme, lavender, licorice and exotic spice. The palate is beautifully textured, combining concentrated dark and red fruits with silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Layers of garrigue, cracked pepper and mineral complexity unfold through a remarkably long, refined finish that lingers effortlessly.
A magnificent match for slow roasted lamb shoulder, Provençal beef daube, duck with olives or wild mushroom pithivier. While captivating today with a generous decant, this is a Châteauneuf du Pape destined to reward patient cellaring for two decades or more.
