Domaine Desvignes Givry Rouge delivers vibrant red Burgundy with juicy fruit, savoury charm and outstanding everyday value.
Firm purple. A modern style of fruit on the nose. More luscious raspberry and ripe cherry fruit on the palate, a glossy feel from the oak which is otherwise unobtrusive. Easygoing finish, with low but adequate acidity. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Sep 2025.
Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
Domaine Desvignes is one of Givry’s historic family estates, with generations of the family cultivating vines in the Côte Chalonnaise. Today siblings Gautier and Aurélie Desvignes are bringing fresh attention to this quietly brilliant corner of Burgundy, combining meticulous vineyard work with gentle, understated winemaking. Their Givry Rouge is a terrific introduction to the domaine, offering genuine regional character without the increasingly eye-watering prices found further north.
The 2023 vintage brought generous ripeness and beautifully expressive fruit while retaining the freshness and energy essential to good Burgundy. Givry’s limestone and clay soils contribute structure and a subtle mineral edge, while careful extraction keeps the wine supple, fragrant and wonderfully approachable.
Bright ruby with crimson highlights, the bouquet bursts with wild cherry, raspberry and red plum alongside violets, dried herbs and gentle spice. The palate is juicy and energetic, with vibrant red berry fruit carried by fine tannins and lively acidity. Hints of earth, pepper and woodland add savoury interest before a fresh, mouthwatering finish of cherry and spice.
This is enormously versatile at the table: roast chicken, duck, pork sausages, mushroom pasta, charcuterie or even a seriously good cheeseburger. Serve it just slightly cool and watch how quickly the bottle disappears. For anyone wanting to explore Burgundy without requiring a meeting with the bank manager, this is a very clever place to start.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2033.
