This is immensely likeable red Burgundy: enough structure and terroir character to keep the Burgundy tragic happy, but enough juicy charm to make the bottle disappear remarkably quickly.
The 2023 Givry Champ la Dame opens on a dark-fruited profile, led by blackcurrants and blackberries with a cool eucalyptus note. Aged in used oak, it’s suave, with fluid fruit framed by dusty tannins. Straightforward and well-proportioned, it concludes cleanly with a tactile finish.

Champ La Damne may or may not be their best single village vineyard but it is Gautier’s favourite, with a good pinot selection. They have one hectare, with mixed ages of vines. A denser purple at the centre, some violets on the nose, greater intensity of dark fruit as well. There is really substantially more fruit here, fresh plums allied to the more traditional berries, better acidity and a light tannic grip. More persistence. Drink from 2027-2030. Tasted Sep 2025.

Domaine Desvignes is one of Givry’s longstanding family domaines, with generations of experience in the rolling vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise. Today siblings Gautier and Aurélie Desvignes are attracting increasing attention for wines that combine thoughtful vineyard work, restrained winemaking and a wonderfully clear expression of place. Champ la Dame is a particularly engaging expression of Givry, delivering the domaine’s trademark freshness and finesse with plenty of immediate charm.
The 2023 vintage brought generous ripeness to the Côte Chalonnaise while retaining the freshness that keeps the wines lively and beautifully balanced. Givry’s limestone and clay soils bring structure and a subtle mineral character, while gentle extraction and carefully judged élevage preserve the purity and energy of the fruit.
Bright ruby in colour, the bouquet is immediately inviting with wild cherry, raspberry and redcurrant joined by violets, dried herbs and gentle spice. With air, hints of forest floor and earthy minerality add another layer. The palate is supple and juicy, with vibrant red fruits framed by fine tannins and bright acidity. There’s an appealing savoury quality beneath the fruit, leading to a fresh, energetic finish of cherry, herbs and spice.
Bring out the roast chicken, duck breast, pork with mushrooms, charcuterie or a bubbling tartiflette. This is immensely likeable red Burgundy: enough structure and terroir character to keep the Burgundy tragic happy, but enough juicy charm to make the bottle disappear remarkably quickly.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2034.
