At once bright and creamy, this has very silky tannins for this appellation. It glides over your palate, the wealth of berry aromas underlined by subtle forest-floor nuances. Great depth in the very harmonious finish. So delicious already. From organically grown grapes. Matured in a mix of new and once-used barriques. Drink or hold.

95 points James Suckling

Aux Chaignots sits just above the village on the Vosne Romanée side, and you can feel that shift straight away. There is a lift and perfume here that softens the typically firmer Nuits Saint Georges profile, and Faiveley leans into that nicely, keeping the structure but letting the aromatics take the lead.

The 2023 opens with a more red fruited, floral tone. Wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry sit alongside rose petal, a touch of five spice and something gently savoury underneath. It feels more open and expressive early, less brooding than Les Porets, more about detail and finesse.

With a bit of air, it starts to show more layers. Hints of clove, dried herbs and a faint earthy note come through, but always in a lighter register. Oak is there, but neatly tucked in, adding a bit of frame rather than flavour.

There’s a lovely flow to it. Tannins are fine and powdery, giving shape without heaviness, while acidity keeps everything bright and moving. The fruit sits in that red spectrum, and the finish stretches out with spice, florals and a subtle mineral line.

This is a really versatile one at the table. Roast duck works beautifully, but it’s just as good with dishes like a beetroot and goat cheese tart, mushroom risotto or even something like roasted carrot with cumin and yoghurt where the sweetness and spice play off the wine’s lift. It doesn’t need heavy food, just something with a bit of flavour and texture.

Already showing well with a bit of air, but will settle in nicely over the next ten to twelve years, gaining more savoury detail as it evolves.
