2023 Faiveley Les Charmes Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru, Burgundy

Les Charmes in Chambolle Musigny is all about grace and perfume, a site that leans toward silk rather than structure, and Faiveley captures that beautifully. While the domaine is often associated with more powerful styles, here they dial it back, letting the natural elegance of Chambolle take the lead.

The 2023 is immediately lifted and expressive. Red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry lead, wrapped in rose petal and violet, with a fine dusting of spice. It feels airy, almost effortless, with a purity that draws you in.

With a bit of time, more detail starts to show. A hint of clove, a touch of orange peel and something faintly earthy sit underneath, but always in a delicate register. Oak is barely noticeable, just enough to give a little shape.

There’s a softness to the texture that defines the wine. Tannins are ultra fine, almost powdery, and the fruit glides across with ease. Acidity keeps everything lifted, giving a sense of movement rather than weight. The finish lingers on red fruit, florals and a subtle mineral thread.

This is where you can lean into more refined dishes. Duck breast with a light jus, quail, or even a delicate mushroom tart all work beautifully. It also pairs effortlessly with things like beetroot, herbs or a soft cheese where the wine’s finesse can really shine.

Already incredibly engaging, though it will continue to evolve over the next eight to twelve years, gaining more savoury complexity while keeping that core elegance.
