Delicate rose petals and wild berries float above warm earth notes, while threads of dried herbs weave through the background. A bright core of strawberry and sour cherry delivers a perfect 10 performance, balancing the warm vintage's plumpness with the kind of poise and precision that would make an Olympic gymnast jealous.

93 points Jeff Porter for Wine Enthusiast

Before Nebbiolo becomes Barolo or Barbaresco, it often first reveals its character in the vineyards of Langhe Nebbiolo. For producers such as Giovanni Rosso, these wines are far more than an introduction to the region's noble grape. They are an opportunity to showcase the perfume, energy and charm of Nebbiolo in a style that is approachable young while remaining unmistakably Piedmontese.

From its home in Serralunga d'Alba, Giovanni Rosso has built an international reputation for wines that express site and variety with honesty and precision. The same philosophy that guides the estate's celebrated Barolos is applied here, with careful vineyard work and restrained winemaking allowing Nebbiolo's personality to take centre stage. The excellent 2023 vintage delivered fruit with vibrant aromatics and beautifully balanced structure.

Bright garnet ruby in colour, the bouquet is immediately captivating with aromas of rose petals, red cherry and wild strawberry layered with hints of blood orange, violet and sweet spice. With time in the glass, subtle notes of anise, dried herbs and forest floor emerge, adding complexity and intrigue. The palate is lively and elegant, offering flavours of sour cherry, cranberry and red berries supported by fine tannins and fresh acidity. There is wonderful energy throughout, finishing with lingering floral notes and a savoury edge that invites another sip.

This is a natural partner for mushroom risotto, duck ragù, veal cotoletta, truffle pasta or a generous wedge of Parmigiano Reggiano. Equally enjoyable with a slight chill on warmer evenings, it captures the vibrancy and food friendly nature that make Langhe Nebbiolo one of Italy's most rewarding wines.
