Rich and full-bodied Malbec with aromatic, intense and spicy black fruit
Such a deep, dark red, an impenetrable colour; no wallflower on the aroma and flavour front, with lots of appeal. Florals, spice, freshly rolled tobacco, dark plums and blackberry essence. Quite intense, rich and still youthful. Full bodied, lashings of bolshie tannins, so partner this to hearty fare.
91 points Jane Faulkner for Halliday Wine Companion, March 2026
Opaque purple colour; intense sweet blackberry and cassis aromas; fresh, bold and fruit driven. A hint of stalk. The wine is bold and straightforward with fine powdery tannins in good balance, rounded and harmonious. It's a tad simple, but that's young malbec. It has potential to add layers with time. Drink to 2035.
90 points Huon Hooke for The Real Review, November 2025
From the long, temperate and in the end excellent red vintage in Margaret River, the hand harvested fruit was fermented in smaller one- and two-tonne open fermenters with a 10% inclusion of whole bunches and hand plunged for 8-12 days. The pressed wine was matured for 12 months in French oak barriques before the wine was blended and prepared for bottling.About this producer
The Hay Shed Hill vineyard sits in the heart of the Wilyabrup subregion of Margaret River on a property with origins as a dairy farm. The vineyard sits just five kilometres from the Indian Ocean, with a pronounced afternoon sea breeze moderating the climate well beyond what the latitude would suggest. Vines were first planted here in the early 1970s. These are predominantly dry grown across the hilly terrain, with each aspect matched to the variety it suits best. Winemaker Michael Kerrigan has led the estate since 2006 with a clear focus on wines that reflect the quality of the site.
