So much subtle character, showing delicate red fruit, hints of spices and a lovely midpalate. Fresh and tense with a bright, persistent finish. Drink now and enjoy.
95 points James Suckling
From Swan and Mt. Eden vines, the 2023 Pinot Noir West Ridge has pure scents of blackberry, pomegranate, bitter orange, mossy bark, forest floor and tea leaves. The light-bodied palate is bursting with surprisingly concentrated, high-toned fruit. It’s framed by barely-there, silky tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a long, elegant finish.
94 points Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate
High above the Pacific Ocean, the West Ridge is one of the most compelling corners of Hirsch Vineyards, where exposed slopes, fractured sandstone and the restless influence of the San Andreas Fault produce Pinot Noir with extraordinary character. David Hirsch established the estate in 1980, and today his daughter Jasmine continues its reputation for beautifully expressive coastal wines. Winemaker Luke McCollom works with the vineyard's distinctive parcels to preserve their individuality.
Luminous ruby red with crimson highlights. Wild raspberry, black cherry and cranberry mingle with violets, blood orange and a suggestion of crushed herbs. The 2023 vintage is finely structured, with vibrant acidity, beautifully integrated tannins and an intriguing mineral edge. There's a lovely tension between ripe fruit and savoury complexity, finishing long, fragrant and wonderfully elegant.
Magnificent with soy glazed quail, grilled wild mushrooms with crispy shallots, or sesame crusted ocean trout with pickled cherries.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2038. A serious, ageworthy Pinot Noir that should become increasingly complex with time.
