The Jane Eyre Pommard Village Rouge is a thoughtful and terroir-driven expression of one of Burgundy’s most characterful appellations, crafted in Jane’s signature small-batch, hands-off style. Pommard, nestled between Beaune and Volnay in the Côte de Beaune, is famed for producing Pinot Noir with depth, structure and a more savoury, earthy profile compared to its neighbours. The vineyards here sit on clay-limestone soils with a high iron content, giving wines that are darker, more robust and long-lived.
In the glass, the Pommard Village Rouge shows a deeper ruby hue than many of Jane’s other Burgundies. The bouquet is bold and fragrant, with dark cherry, blackberry and plum layered with dried herbs, spice, forest floor and a hint of graphite. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, with muscular tannins wrapped around flavours of black fruit, savoury earth, and a touch of game. The finish is long and firm, showing both power and balance, true to the Pommard style.
Food pairings work best with equally robust dishes: braised beef bourguignon, roast duck with earthy sides, venison with juniper, or mushroom-based dishes such as porcini risotto. Hard cheeses like Comté or aged Gruyère also pair beautifully. With 10 to 15 years of cellaring potential, the wine evolves into a complex and more elegant expression, gaining truffle, leather and dried flower notes while softening its structure.
