The Jane Eyre Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses is a beautifully crafted Burgundy Pinot Noir that captures both the elegance of this celebrated premier cru and the artisan touch of Jane Eyre. Originally from Melbourne, Jane Eyre made her name as a micro-négociant in Burgundy, producing small parcels of wine from carefully chosen sites. Aux Vergelesses, often considered the jewel of Savigny-lès-Beaune, sits on south and east-facing slopes with clay-limestone soils that provide excellent drainage and sun exposure. This terroir produces Pinot Noir with both structure and finesse, wines that age gracefully yet offer charm in their youth.
In the glass it is a translucent ruby red. The bouquet is perfumed and refined, with aromas of red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, lifted by notes of rose petals, spice and a subtle earthy undertone. The palate is silky and medium-bodied, showing layers of vibrant red fruit, savoury herbs, fine-grained tannins and a mineral backbone. A line of fresh acidity carries the wine to a long, elegant and persistent finish, highlighting both precision and grace.
Food pairings lean towards classic Burgundian fare: coq au vin, duck breast with cherries, mushroom fricassée, or simply roast chicken with herbs. It is also excellent with soft cheeses like Époisses or creamy Brie. With 10 to 15 years of cellaring potential, the wine develops more earthy, truffle and forest floor characters, while retaining its core of red fruit and perfume.
