Jericho GSM from McLaren Vale is a smooth, juicy red blend that hits all the right notes as a fresh spin on a classic sun-soaked South Australian red blend.
Old bush vine Grenache in the Jericho vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region is the foundation of this blend and sets the tone for the wine with red-fruited, perfumed and juicy fruit. Shiraz adds structure and mid-palate weight, and a small addition of Mourvèdre brings earthy spice and complexity to the finish. A whole bunch fermentation component of the Grenache adds a savoury lift throughout.
Hand harvested, gently handled, and matured in seasoned French oak. The aim is freshness and drinkability rather than weight and extract — a wine for the table rather than the cellar.
Bright crimson, the nose shows raspberry, red cherry and dried herbs with a warm baking spice undercurrent. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth with fine tannins, generous fruit, lively acidity and a clean, savoury finish.
A quietly smart wine and very easy to enjoy. Early drinking GSM blends are often the rather magical component of BBQ parties and BYO spreads, with a seemingly endless list of food that works well with this style.
