Among the rolling granite hills of Victoria’s Pyrenees region, Lethbridge has carved out a reputation for producing thoughtful, site driven wines that push beyond the boundaries of their Geelong origins. The winery was founded by Dr Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis, a partnership built on curiosity, careful vineyard work and a commitment to expressive wines. Their Que Syrah is sourced from biodynamically farmed vineyards in the Pyrenees where ancient granite soils and warm days balanced by cool evenings create ideal conditions for Syrah to ripen slowly while retaining aromatic lift and natural freshness. The fruit is handled with a gentle approach in the cellar to highlight purity, savoury complexity and the character of the site.
The wine shows a deep crimson colour with purple flashes. Aromas rise with blackberry, plum and dark cherry layered with classic Syrah notes of cracked pepper, violet and smoked meat. As the wine opens further hints of olive tapenade, graphite and dried herbs appear, giving the wine a savoury northern Rhône feel. The palate is beautifully structured with fine tannins and lively acidity carrying flavours of dark berries, spice and earthy complexity across a long balanced finish.
There is both power and finesse here, reflecting the warmth of the Pyrenees and the precision of biodynamic farming. It will evolve gracefully over the next ten to fifteen years and pairs wonderfully with roasted lamb, grilled venison, slow braised beef or earthy mushroom dishes.
