2023 Marchese Antinori Tenuta Tignanello Chianti Classico Riserva, Tuscany

The Antinori family has been shaping the story of Italian wine for more than six centuries, with a winemaking heritage that stretches back to 1385. At the heart of that legacy lies Tenuta Tignanello, one of Tuscany's most celebrated estates and home to some of Italy's most iconic wines. While Tignanello transformed the modern image of Chianti, the Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva remains the family's flagship expression of the denomination, capturing the elegance, tradition and enduring appeal of the region.

Sourced from estate vineyards in the heart of Chianti Classico, the 2023 vintage benefited from an excellent growing season that delivered beautifully balanced fruit with vibrant aromatics and refined tannins. Predominantly Sangiovese, supported by small proportions of complementary varieties, the wine is matured in French and Hungarian oak, adding subtle complexity while preserving the purity and character of the fruit.

The colour is a deep ruby red with garnet highlights. Aromas of black cherry, wild raspberry and plum are layered with violet, dried herbs, tobacco leaf, cedar and sweet baking spice. The palate is beautifully structured and harmonious, combining ripe red and dark fruits with silky tannins and lively acidity. Notes of liquorice, graphite and savoury earth unfold through a long, elegant finish that reflects both the pedigree of the estate and the timeless character of Chianti Classico.

Superb with bistecca alla Fiorentina, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, roast pork with rosemary, porcini mushroom risotto or aged Pecorino Toscano. Delicious now after decanting, it will continue to evolve gracefully over the next fifteen to twenty years.
