Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo from Piedmont is a graceful, aromatic red that offers the character and depth of Barolo in a more youthful and approachable form. Produced by the Massolino family in the historic village of Serralunga d’Alba, this wine is a pure expression of Nebbiolo’s elegance — fragrant, savoury and structured, yet beautifully balanced and refined. It reflects the family’s century-long dedication to traditional winemaking and their deep connection to the limestone and clay hills of the Langhe.

The grapes are sourced from younger vines in the family’s Barolo vineyards and neighbouring parcels in Serralunga and Monforte d’Alba. These high-altitude sites and calcareous soils give Nebbiolo its trademark perfume, firm tannins and vibrant acidity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by ageing for about a year in large Slavonian oak casks. This gentle maturation polishes the tannins and enhances the wine’s texture without masking its freshness or purity.

In the glass it shines a brilliant garnet red with orange highlights. The aroma is elegant and expressive, showing rose petals, red cherry, raspberry and dried herbs, with hints of spice, earth and truffle. The palate is medium bodied and silky, offering layers of red fruit, savoury mineral tones and fine, chalky tannins. There’s a lovely tension between fruit and structure, leading to a long, graceful finish that captures the soul of Piedmontese Nebbiolo.

It pairs beautifully with roast duck, veal, mushroom risotto or pasta with slow-cooked ragu. It also complements aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino. Delicious young for its freshness and perfume, it will age gracefully for 8 to 10 years, developing deeper savoury and earthy complexity over time.
