2023 Meadowbank Chardonnay is nothing short of outrageously delicious. Low grape yields in the vineyard (kind of bad from a business perspective) have produced an extremely high quality and flavourful wine (kind of great from a drinking perspective).
This wine is a vibrant, golden-hued beauty that gives you instant appeal, as aromas of white peach and citrus zest dance earnestly from the glass. Rich and utterly tantalising on the palate, it delivers all the complex flint and lemon curd flavours you can dream of. It is bright, fresh and absolutely jam packed with flavour.
These grapes are taken from the 1987-planted Chardonnay vines. We lovingly nurture and harvest all the grapes by hand, before passing them on to winemaker, Peter Dredge. Pete is all about minimal intervention in the winery and simply allows the vineyard to speak for itself. He takes whole bunches of grapes and presses them straight into hand-selected and pre-seasoned French oak barrels (about 10% new oak). The wine is left to mature on yeast lees for 9 months, before being bottled without fining agents.
What we love most about this wine, besides its absolute drinkability, is how wonderfully versatile it is. Enjoy it on its own, or pair it with cheese, chicken, seafood, pasta, roast vegetables, soup, even fried food... the options are almost endless.
2023 is a vintage to celebrate - this wine will happily sleep and continue to evolve beautifully in your cellar for 3-5 years. The only downside... this is a very small batch, single vineyard wine, so stock is highly limited. Seriously, grab some while you can!
