A magenta-hued syrah that shows pepper-dusted red and dark fruits along with hints of exotic spice, snapped twigs and amaro herbs, wildflowers, dried citrus rind, blueberry pastries, sandalwood and dried cranberry. Airy, detailed and energetic with a captivating, bunchy complexity and filigreed tannins providing gentle, powdery support. There's a tonic-like quality to the sapid, mineral line... and by tonic I mean it's good for you. If you get my drift.

Meadowbank Syrah from the Derwent Valley is a beautifully aromatic, cool-climate red that brings grace and perfume to the variety more commonly associated with bolder expressions. Grown in Tasmania’s southern Derwent Valley, this Syrah comes from Meadowbank’s sustainably farmed, windswept vineyard where ancient sandstone soils and a long growing season allow the fruit to ripen slowly and evenly, building complexity without excess weight.

Winemaker Peter Dredge approaches Syrah with a light hand and a focus on elegance. The fruit is handpicked, with a generous proportion of whole bunches included in the ferment to enhance lift and spice. The wine is aged in older French oak to preserve its fine floral aromatics and silky texture, with minimal sulphur and intervention.

The nose bursts with violets, black cherry, cracked pepper and graphite, along with savoury herbs and hints of rose petal and charcuterie. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and supple, with juicy red and black fruits layered over fine tannins and a savoury mineral finish. It’s a Syrah that leans toward the Northern Rhône in spirit, but with a distinct Tasmanian coolness and finesse.

Pair it with duck breast and beetroot purée, mushroom risotto, lamb kofta with yoghurt sauce, or grilled eggplant with miso glaze. It also matches beautifully with semi-hard cheeses like aged gouda or manchego. Drink now for its energy and fragrance or cellar for 5 to 8 years for more savoury development.
