Light, fresh and elegantly fruity with passionfruit, lemongrass, lime zest, and punchy gooseberry-like flavours. The wine has an almost ethereal quality which I like. Perhaps a bit simple but very tasty 09 Feb 2024 Drink 2024–2027

Momo Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough is a vibrant, certified organic white wine that channels the crisp purity and citrus-driven punch the region is famed for. Momo, meaning “offspring” in Māori, is the younger sibling to Seresin Estate, one of New Zealand’s pioneers of biodynamic and organic viticulture.
Fruit for this wine is sourced from Seresin’s own vineyards in the Wairau Valley, grown organically on free-draining alluvial soils with a mix of gravel and silt. The climate is classic Marlborough: long sunny days, cool nights, and dry conditions, allowing Sauvignon Blanc to retain racy acidity while developing intense aromatics.
Winemaker Tamra Kelly-Washington lets the vineyard speak first. The grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel to preserve aromatic freshness and varietal precision. A small portion may be aged briefly on lees to add texture without dulling the wine’s lively edge.
In the glass, Momo opens with lifted aromas of gooseberry, fresh lime, passionfruit and a whisper of jalapeño. The palate is bright and energetic, brimming with citrus zest, green melon and herbs, balanced by crisp acidity and a stony, mineral finish. It's a little more restrained and elegant than many Marlborough Sauvignons, thanks to the organic farming and minimal intervention approach.
Drink it young and fresh. Perfect with oysters, Thai green curry, or a goats’ cheese and asparagus tart.
