There’s a bit of wow to this release. It has an urgency to it, and excellent fruit, and plenty going on, and genuine thrust through the finish. Bowled over, I was. Cherry-plum, positive reduction, purple flowers, twiggy spices and cedar. This is a ‘no need to waffle on’ wine. It’s fabulous.

On the gently rolling slopes of the Mornington Peninsula, Moorooduc Estate has quietly built one of the region’s most respected reputations for thoughtful, site driven Pinot Noir. Founded by Richard and Jill McIntyre in the early 1980s, the winery has always prioritised estate grown fruit, traditional winemaking and a deep understanding of their maritime influenced vineyards. The Garden Vineyard sits close to the cellar door, producing Pinot Noir that reflects both the Peninsula’s cooling sea breezes and the estate’s long commitment to authenticity and finesse.

A vibrant ruby red with a translucent glow hints at the wine’s elegance. Aromas rise with wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry intertwined with rose petal, subtle spice and a gentle forest floor nuance. There is an inviting savoury detail that grows with air. The palate is finely textured and medium bodied, juicy red fruits flowing across silky tannins with notes of rhubarb, dried herbs and crushed stone adding interest. Bright natural acidity keeps everything lively and precise, finishing long and softly mineral with a lingering floral echo.

This is Pinot Noir that feels made for relaxed coastal meals and unhurried conversation. Roast duck with thyme, grilled salmon, mushroom and truffle pasta or charcuterie shared with friends will all feel right at home. Drinking beautifully now for its vibrancy and charm, yet capable of developing extra earthy complexity and dried flower character over the next five to seven years. A graceful and authentic Mornington Peninsula Pinot that showcases Moorooduc’s enduring feel for vineyard expression.
