A much more savoury offering this vintage and super-tight; best advice is to pop this away for another year or so. Certainly fruit flavours within – the black cherries and compote, but also some beetroot and chinotto with a little Campari twang. Fuller bodied with sinewy tannins and loads of refreshing acidity, which is in the lead.

Among the thoughtful single vineyard releases from Moorooduc Estate, the Robinson Pinot Noir offers a beautifully detailed expression of Mornington Peninsula terroir. Richard and Jill McIntyre have spent decades refining their understanding of site, championing estate grown fruit and traditional winemaking at a time when the region was still finding its voice. The Robinson vineyard, shaped by cooling maritime winds and well drained soils, produces Pinot Noir of perfume, finesse and quiet structural depth, reflecting the estate’s patient, hands off philosophy in the cellar.

A clear ruby garnet hue glows softly in the glass. Aromas rise with wild strawberry, red cherry and cranberry layered alongside rose petal, clove and a gentle forest floor savouriness. There is a lifted floral elegance that feels distinctly Peninsula. The palate is finely woven and medium bodied, juicy red fruits gliding across silky tannins with notes of rhubarb, dried herbs and crushed stone adding dimension. Bright acidity keeps the wine poised and food focused, finishing long with a mineral freshness and lingering spice.

This is Pinot Noir that rewards both attention and easy enjoyment. A slow dinner with friends, roast duck on the table, conversation stretching late into the evening feels like the perfect setting. It pairs beautifully with grilled salmon, mushroom ragù, charcuterie or herb roasted chicken. Drinking impressively now with a gentle decant, yet capable of evolving over six to eight years as earthy, dried flower and gamey complexity begins to unfold. A graceful and authentic single vineyard Pinot that showcases Moorooduc’s enduring commitment to regional expression.
