Moreau-Naudet Petit Chablis is a refined, mineral-driven white wine that punches well above its appellation. Sourced from organically farmed vineyards on the higher slopes surrounding the Chablis village, this wine reflects the late Stéphane Moreau’s commitment to purity, texture and precision. Under the direction of Virginie Moreau, the domaine continues to produce some of the most compelling wines in Chablis, and even this entry-level bottling is layered, energetic and unmistakably terroir-focused.
The fruit is hand-harvested, a rarity for Petit Chablis, and fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Lees contact is extended, and there is no aggressive fining or filtration, allowing the wine to retain a natural richness and chalky tension. This is not your average Petit Chablis — it’s more structured, more mineral, and built with the same care as a premier cru.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of lemon zest, green apple, white flowers, oyster shell and wet stone. The palate is crisp and electric, with chalky acidity wrapped around citrus, green pear and a faint saline note. There’s beautiful texture for the level and a long, precise finish that reveals its Kimmeridgian roots, even if labelled Petit Chablis.
Food pairing: perfect with oysters, grilled white fish, goat cheese tart, or prawn linguine with lemon and parsley. Also excellent with fresh chèvre or simple tomato salads with sea salt and olive oil.
Cellar potential: best within 3 to 5 years of vintage for freshness and minerality, though it will hold longer than most wines at this level.
