Lively, structured single vineyard wine with long and persistent flavours
An impressive single-vineyard pinot noir from Central Otago that shows vibrant red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry fruit tones with hints of barrel spice, dried meats, leaf litter, citrus blossom, wild thyme and earth. That fruit on the palate is so pure and appealing with a plume of spice, fine, silty tannins and a lovely stretch of flavour as the wine trails away. Drink to 2035.

Lots of black cherries and black licorice with stone and slate on the nose. Medium-bodied, this has crunchy, chewy fruit and a flavorful finish. Structured with polished tannins. Persistent at the end. Drink or hold.

A mid-weight style with sizeable tannins and extraction. Slightly herbal and trimmed in drying oak. Mid-length with fair concentration. Will evolve, but needs time. Drink to 2034.

This Pinot opens with lively red and black fruit aromas that are speckled with notes of undergrowth, dried meadow flowers, charcuterie, licorice and slate. Medium-bodied, the palate is long, with persistent and expanding flavours supported by ample, fine tannins.
The wine's charcuterie and undergrowth notes want something savoury and slow-cooked to meet them, while the fine tannins and length keep it elegant rather than rustic. A wild mushroom and truffle risotto, or a Peruvian-style lomo saltado for something with a bit more char.
More about this wine
Nanny Goat’s Queensberry range of single vineyard wines are made from fruit grown in the organically certified home site in Queensberry.
The 2023 vintage was a disaster for parts of the North Island, but Central Otago enjoyed an even, warm season that provided well-balanced and aromatic fruit of high quality.
The fruit was destemmed, retaining a high proportion of whole berries. A short maceration period was followed by a natural ferment that was left on skins for up to 32 days before pressing. The wine was pressed and racked into French oak barriques of which 31% were new, with natural malolactic and maturation totalling ten months.
About Nanny Goat
Nanny Goat Vineyard is named after the wild goats that roam the mountainous terrain of Central Otago.
The home vineyard in Queensberry sits between 270m and 290m altitude about halfway between Cromwell and Wanaka. Its 18.7 hectares of vines are spread across two northeasterly terraces along the Mata Au/Clutha River of alluvial soils that are a tapestry of loess, gravel, schist and mineral quartz. Planted from 2004, the vineyard is certified organic.
A second vineyard is located in the Bendigo subregion and sits on the other side of the river and overlooks Queensberry. Its 13.7 hectares of vines are planted mostly to Pinot Noir, with small blocks of Syrah. This site is farmed with conventional methods while incorporating regenerative practices. Fruit is also sourced from neighbouring farms that share similar philosophy to viticultural sustainability.
All fruit is handpicked and hand sorted at the winery, retaining as many whole berries as possible. Whole bunch components are considered essential for fermentation that takes place in open top stainless steel. The Pinot Noir wines mature 11-13 months in 225-litre French oak barriques of which 35-40% are renewed annually, while the Chardonnays spend roughly nine months in 500-litre French oak puncheons.
