From a walled Premier Cru parcel in the heart of Chassagne Montrachet, Clos Saint Marc has a way of combining richness with a tighter, more mineral line, and in 2023 that contrast really comes alive. Olivier Leflaive’s Récolte selections focus on carefully sourced, top quality fruit, handled with precision to let each vineyard’s character show without excess.
The aromatics are layered and expressive, white peach and nectarine alongside lemon zest and a touch of grapefruit. There is a gentle floral lift, then a more savoury edge builds, almond, cashew and a hint of spice, with a fine chalky note running through it.
The palate is both generous and structured, medium to full bodied with a creamy, flowing texture. Stone fruit and citrus sit at the core, but it is the balance that stands out, a line of fresh acidity and that underlying mineral grip keeping everything poised. Oak is seamlessly integrated, adding depth and subtle spice, while the finish stretches long with citrus, nutty complexity and a refined savoury edge.
Olivier Leflaive’s approach here is all about control and detail, careful pressing, measured élevage and a focus on clarity, resulting in a wine that feels polished but still very much tied to its site.
This is a natural match for dishes with both richness and finesse. Lobster, scallops or roast chicken all work beautifully, and it also pairs effortlessly with vegetarian dishes like pumpkin and sage ravioli, cauliflower gratin or a creamy mushroom tart where the wine’s texture and savoury notes really shine.
It is already showing beautifully, but over the next eight to twelve years it will develop more honeyed, nutty layers while retaining its freshness and structure.
