Paolo Scavino Barbera d'Alba is a polished and expressive red from one of Barolo’s most respected producers. While the estate is best known for its Nebbiolo crus, this Barbera shows just how much care and precision Scavino brings to all of its wines. It’s vibrant, pure and full of energy, offering generous fruit and supple texture with a thread of freshness that makes it endlessly drinkable.
The grapes are sourced from estate vineyards across Barolo and nearby areas, grown on calcareous clay soils that give the wine both structure and lift. Fermentation is in stainless steel to preserve freshness, followed by ageing in a combination of stainless steel and large neutral oak to soften the edges without introducing overt oak flavour.
The nose opens with ripe cherry, plum, violets and a hint of sweet spice. The palate is medium bodied and juicy, with red berry fruit, raspberry coulis, and gentle savoury undertones. Acidity is bright but balanced, and tannins are soft, making it a versatile and food-friendly wine.
Food pairing: pairs beautifully with tomato-based pasta, grilled sausages, roast pork, mushroom risotto, or pizza with prosciutto and rocket. Also excellent with eggplant parmigiana or hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano.
Cellar potential: best enjoyed in the first 5 to 7 years while it retains its vibrant fruit and freshness, though it will gain mellow complexity with a bit of age.
