Perfumed, bright and fresh old vine Pinot
Medium ruby red colour. Raspberry, red liquorice, rose and cinnamon aromas. Bright and fresh, red fruited with youthful vitality, but there’s an intensity and drive here that is far more serious than initial descriptors suggest. A fantastic interplay between acid and tannins drive and lift it with style and grace, the length is prodigious and the detail is remarkable. Give it plenty of time in the glass to allow it to really shine. Drink to 2036.

The nose has lifted and perfumed aromas of wild raspberries, cassia bark, violets and blood oranges. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and focused acidity, giving notes of cherries, dried herbs, baking spices and ferric earth. Very well integrated and perfumed. Drink or hold.

The 2023 The Paringa Pinot Noir is lightly framed and similarly weighted, yet the fruit has a concentration and penetration about it that elevates it over and above the other Paringa cuvées tasted here today. This veritably settles into the palate, staining it gently, reminding it that the flavors are here to stay. There are notes of cherry, clove, strawberry, pomegranate molasses, a hint of sumac and tapenade. The acidity is like wisps of caper brine. This is super lovely. Drink to 2038.

Established by Lindsay McCall in 1985, Paringa Estate is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s leading producers, with a reputation built on meticulous vineyard work and a commitment to showcasing the nuances of site and vintage.
The Paringa comes from two of the oldest vine blocks in Paringa Estate’s home vineyard, almost 40-years-old at the time of the harvest. The vineyard in southern Red Hill is a north facing amphitheatre of closely spaced vines tucked into a hillside and carefully managed to produce low yields and highly concentrated fruit.
Winemaking has been in the hands of Lindsay’s son Jamie McCall since the 2017 vintage.
