2025 Jane Eyre Shoreham Park Pinot Noir, Mornington Peninsula

The same 1990s-planted site and the same winemaking approach: wild ferment with 20% whole bunches, 10% new oak. This is an elegantly framed release from what was a warm year, with an earlier pick yielding finesse and a savoury dimension. It’s open in fragrance, perfumed and lifted with red fruits, but there’s a cooler side, a dusting of spice, a mulchy forest floor and snapped twig element. And there's a linearity, an appealing tension rather than breadth, tannins finely composed, acidity vibrant. This promises to age well. Drink to 2035.

Gippsland-born Jane Eyre has lived in Bourgogne for almost 25 years where she began her négociant business in 2011 after experiences at Dominique Lafon and Domaine Newman. She was recently nominated the winemaker for the historic Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard.

Not content with that enviable list of names, she manages to produce sought-after wines in Australia, with fruit sources in Tasmania, Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula.

The Shoreham Park vineyard, located near Western Port Bay on volcanic and sandy loam soils, produces fruit with vibrant aromatics, fine tannins and a mineral edge that speaks to its maritime setting.
