Matured for 12 months in 40% new oak hogsheads. The cool vintage is pulling forth some intoxicating briary notes of marjoram, thyme and blackberries. There is blue fruit, too, with lingering acidity and very gentle tannins. This moves into new realms of drinkability and would be suitable in a wide balloon glass to enjoy those foresty aromas. Delightful.

From the famed Terra Rossa strip of Coonawarra, Parker Estate has long been recognised for producing elegant wines that reflect the unique soils of the region. The winery was established in 1985 by John Parker, who set out to craft Cabernet based wines that would stand among Australia’s finest. Over time the estate has also gained a reputation for beautifully balanced Merlot grown on the same distinctive red soils that make Coonawarra famous. The vineyards sit over a limestone base beneath the rich Terra Rossa topsoil, a combination that provides excellent drainage and allows the vines to produce fruit with both concentration and finesse.
The wine shows a deep ruby colour with vibrant crimson edges. Aromas open with ripe plum, black cherry and red berry fruit layered with hints of cedar, dried herbs and gentle spice. As the wine breathes subtle notes of chocolate and tobacco leaf begin to appear, adding complexity. The palate is supple and medium bodied with smooth tannins carrying flavours of plum, dark cherry and soft spice across a balanced frame. Fresh acidity keeps the wine lively while careful oak maturation brings a touch of structure and polish.
