A 45/45/10% cabernet sauvignon/merlot and cabernet franc/petit verdot blend with the majority coming off the original dry-grown 1963 plantings. A fabulous, bright crimson/purple. A touch riper and richer than the '22. There's a sumptuous core of dark fruits, violets, cedar and fresh pencil shavings on the nose. It's just as enticing on the perfectly pitched, medium bodied, elegant and very persistent palate. Everything is in place for a long and productive life!

From one of the quiet icons of the Yarra Valley, the Amelia Cabernet Merlot from Wantirna Estate reflects a long family tradition of meticulous vineyard care and thoughtful winemaking. The estate was established in 1963 by Reg and Mary Egan and today remains in family hands, with son David Egan overseeing the vineyards and winemaking. The vineyards sit on gently sloping red volcanic soils in the heart of the Yarra Valley, a site that has proven particularly suited to Bordeaux varieties. The Amelia blend is named in honour of a member of the Egan family and represents the estate’s elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown in this cool climate region.
The wine shows a deep ruby colour with crimson highlights. Aromas open with blackcurrant, plum and red cherry layered with cedar, dried herbs and subtle tobacco leaf. With time in the glass further notes of graphite, spice and earthy complexity emerge, reflecting the classic character of Yarra Valley Cabernet blends. The palate is medium to full bodied with fine structured tannins supporting flavours of cassis, dark plum and savoury herbs. A line of fresh acidity carries the wine across the palate, leading to a long refined finish with gentle oak spice.
The wine will continue to evolve beautifully for twelve to fifteen years and suits roast lamb, grilled beef, slow cooked dishes or earthy mushroom based cuisine.
