At once cool and refined with a wealth of herbal and citrus freshness, this medium-bodied dry riesling has a lot of stony mineral complexity. It builds as the wine rolls elegantly over your palate. At the long finale, a wide spectrum of candied citrus character adds to the fascination. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold.

Paul Kubler Les Pierriers Riesling is a superb example of dry, mineral-driven Alsace Riesling, sourced from the family’s vineyards in the village of Soultzmatt in the Haut-Rhin. Domaine Paul Kubler is a 10th-generation estate with a winemaking history dating back to 1620, and today it’s run by Paul Kubler, who focuses on precise, terroir-expressive wines that highlight the distinct geology of their sites. Les Pierriers comes from stony limestone and marl soils on south-facing slopes, which give the wine its name and its remarkable tension and minerality.

The grapes are hand harvested and gently pressed, with fermentation carried out in stainless steel to preserve clarity and freshness. The wine is made in a classic dry Alsatian style, showcasing pure fruit, crisp acidity, and a long, mineral finish rather than sweetness. The terroir of Soultzmatt, known for its cool climate and excellent drainage, produces Rieslings that combine bright citrus fruit with a deep sense of place.

In the glass, Les Pierriers is pale straw with green tinges. The nose is expressive and refined, with aromas of lime zest, green apple, white flowers, and crushed stone. The palate is vibrant and linear, with concentrated citrus and orchard fruit flavours supported by racy acidity and a distinct chalky, saline edge. It’s a wine of precision and drive, finishing long and mineral, making it a standout choice for lovers of dry, structured Riesling.

This wine pairs beautifully with oysters, grilled white fish, scallops, goat’s cheese, or delicately spiced Asian dishes. It’s also excellent with classic Alsatian fare like choucroute garnie or tarte flambée. While thrilling in its youth for its energy and clarity, it will cellar gracefully for 10 to 15 years, developing honeyed and petrol nuances over time.
