Piccini Bastioni della Rocca delivers rich Puglian flavour with silky texture, appassimento character and exceptional value.
Piccini has been crafting expressive Italian wines since 1882, building a reputation for combining regional authenticity with exceptional value. Bastioni della Rocca Leggero Appassimento is inspired by the traditional appassimento method, where a portion of the grapes is gently dried to concentrate flavour and richness. Produced in the warm vineyards of Puglia, it offers a modern expression of southern Italy's generous winemaking style.
The 2023 vintage enjoyed warm, sunny conditions, producing beautifully ripe fruit with excellent concentration and balance. Partial appassimento enhances the wine's richness and texture while preserving freshness, creating a red that is generous, smooth and wonderfully approachable.
Deep ruby with purple hues, the bouquet opens with aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum layered with sweet spice, dark chocolate and hints of dried herbs. The palate is plush and velvety, combining luscious dark berry fruit with supple tannins, gentle oak and a touch of mocha. Rich yet beautifully balanced, the finish is long, smooth and satisfyingly savoury.
A superb match for slow-cooked beef, chargrilled steaks, rich pasta dishes, gourmet burgers or mature hard cheeses. Perfect for hearty meals or relaxed entertaining, this is a richly flavoured Italian red that delivers outstanding value.
