The Pichot family have been making wine in Vouvray since the eighteenth century, with Domaine Le Peu de la Moriette becoming one of the appellation's most respected addresses for expressive and beautifully balanced Chenin Blanc. Today Christophe Pichot continues the family's tradition, crafting wines that capture both the generosity and freshness of this remarkable corner of the Loire Valley.
Clos St Mathurin is one of the estate's signature vineyards, planted on the famous tuffeau limestone soils that have made Vouvray one of France's great white wine regions. Produced using the traditional method with secondary fermentation in bottle, this sparkling Chenin Blanc combines the variety's natural acidity with texture and complexity from extended lees ageing.
The colour is a bright pale gold with a persistent stream of fine bubbles. Aromas of green apple, lemon zest and white pear mingle with notes of brioche, honeysuckle and crushed chalk. The palate is lively and precise, balancing crisp citrus and orchard fruits with creamy texture and refreshing acidity. Fine mousse and a subtle mineral thread carry through the wine, finishing long, dry and wonderfully elegant.
An ideal companion for oysters, tempura prawns, smoked salmon blinis, gougères or simply as an aperitif before dinner begins. Enjoy now and over the next few years while its freshness and energy remain at their peak.
