Radford Dale Renaissance Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch is a benchmark expression of South African Chenin that blends old-vine richness with modern, natural-leaning finesse. Made by Alex Dale and the team at Radford Dale, this wine pays tribute to the Cape’s most planted white grape, elevating it with precision, texture and soul.
The fruit comes from mature bush vines planted on the ocean-influenced slopes of Stellenbosch’s Helderberg and Bottelary Hills. These low-yielding vineyards, rooted in decomposed granite and shale, produce intensely flavoured berries with bright natural acidity and saline minerality. Fermented wild in a mix of old barrels and large-format oak, the wine sees extended time on lees to build complexity without sacrificing freshness.
The Renaissance is layered with quince, yellow apple, dried herbs and a subtle honeyed depth, lifted by citrus zest and crushed seashell minerality. The palate is supple yet structured, with a waxy texture and a long, savoury finish. It's a Chenin that leans toward Loire-like elegance but stands firmly in its South African identity.
It’s brilliant with roast pork and crackling, duck à l’orange, or spiced cauliflower with tahini yoghurt. With the balance and acidity to age gracefully for 8 to 10 years, this is a Chenin for collectors and drinkers alike.
