Radford Dale Vinum Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch is a fresh, textured and quietly complex white that shows just how expressive and food-friendly Chenin can be when grown on mature vines and handled with care. Sourced from older dry-farmed bush vines in the cool coastal zones of Stellenbosch, this wine reflects the region’s granite-rich soils and maritime influence with clarity and character.
Alex Dale and the Radford Dale team are champions of minimal intervention and site transparency. Grapes are handpicked, whole-bunch pressed, and fermented with wild yeasts. A portion sees old oak barrels and time on lees, which lends the wine texture and depth without overshadowing its brightness.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of pear, quince, green apple and lemon blossom, underlined by a faint waxy note and a touch of crushed stone. The palate is dry and layered, offering citrus and orchard fruits wrapped in a gently creamy texture, lifted by brisk acidity and a clean, mineral finish.
Brilliant with dishes like grilled chicken with preserved lemon, roast cauliflower, prawns with garlic and herbs, or goat’s cheese tart. It drinks beautifully now but can also reward short to medium-term cellaring.
