90 points Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
Jean Rijckaert established his domaine in the 1990s, developing a reputation for beautifully individual wines from Burgundy and the Jura. Today, Florent Rouve continues his work, producing whites that celebrate freshness, texture and the distinctive character of each grape variety. Savagnin is one of the Jura's great treasures, capable of producing wonderfully complex wines with remarkable personality and ageing potential.
Although Rijckaert is closely associated with the Mâconnais, this Savagnin comes from Arbois in the Jura, where limestone and marl soils provide ideal conditions for the variety. The 2023 captures Savagnin's naturally vibrant acidity and savoury character, with ripe fruit adding depth and approachability.
Bright straw yellow with gentle golden reflections. Preserved lemon, yellow apple and quince mingle with white flowers, fresh almond and a hint of crushed stone. The palate is concentrated and finely textured, with lively citrus acidity, ripe orchard fruit and a distinctive savoury, slightly saline character. Subtle notes of spice and lemon peel carry through a long, mouthwatering finish.
Try it with grilled sardines and fennel, a creamy leek and potato gratin, or crispy tofu with ginger and sesame. Its savoury complexity also makes it a wonderful partner for roasted cauliflower with hazelnuts and aged Gruyère.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2035. Its natural acidity and structure should allow it to develop greater complexity over the coming decade.
