It’s a brand new addition to the ever-growing Hill Smith Family Estates (HSFE) tribe, and I suspect the lone Ringbolt Cabernet will be glad of the company. The wine has just been released, and the price will come down once it gets into the retail trenches. This is among the best Chardonnays I’ve tasted in the last 12 months: classic Willyabrup intensity, energy and appeal. Just a gorgeous mouthful that you keep coming back to.

The Ringbolt Chardonnay from Margaret River is a vibrant and approachable white wine that showcases the finesse and purity of this premium wine region. Known for its exceptional balance of fruit, texture, and acidity, this Chardonnay reflects Ringbolt’s commitment to crafting wines that express the unique terroir of Margaret River.

On the nose, the wine reveals enticing aromas of white peach, nectarine, and citrus zest, intertwined with hints of pineapple and green apple. Subtle notes of toasted almond, vanilla, and a touch of flinty minerality add depth and complexity.

The palate is medium-bodied and creamy, with refreshing acidity that provides balance and liveliness. Flavors of stone fruits and lemon curd are layered with nuances of brioche, cashew, and a whisper of oak spice, leading to a long and elegant finish with a lingering freshness.

Sourced from premium vineyards in Margaret River, the Chardonnay grapes benefit from the region’s maritime climate, which ensures cool nights and sunny days, allowing for slow ripening and the development of intense flavors. Partial fermentation and aging in French oak enhance the wine’s texture and complexity while preserving its vibrant fruit character.

This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with dishes such as grilled salmon, roasted chicken, or creamy pasta with mushrooms. It also complements soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert. While delightful to enjoy now, the Ringbolt Chardonnay has the structure to age gracefully for 3–5 years, developing additional layers of complexity.
