Rob Dolan spent decades crafting some of the Yarra Valley's most recognised wines before launching his own label with a focus on drinkability, regional character and value. The True Colours range captures that philosophy perfectly, delivering honest, approachable wines that overdeliver for their price and make everyday drinking far more exciting.
Sourced from selected vineyards across the Yarra Valley, the fruit benefits from the region's cool nights and long growing season, allowing Pinot Noir to develop flavour and perfume without sacrificing freshness. The aim here is not complexity for complexity's sake, but a pure expression of Yarra Pinot that is immediately enjoyable and unmistakably varietal.
The colour is a bright ruby red with youthful crimson hues. Aromas of cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry jump from the glass alongside hints of rose petal, cinnamon and forest floor. The palate is juicy and vibrant, with red berry fruit gliding across silky tannins and lively acidity. A touch of spice and savoury earthiness adds interest, while the finish remains fresh, supple and remarkably moreish.
Brilliant with duck tacos, mushroom arancini, grilled salmon, wood fired pizza or a simple roast chicken shared with friends on a cool evening. Drink over the next three to five years, although its greatest strength may be how quickly the bottle disappears once opened.
For value in Australian Pinot Noir it is hard to look past this release, delivering genuine Yarra Valley character at a price that encourages a second bottle rather than a second mortgage.
