Plush sweet berry aromas for rich, slow-cooked meats or smoky wood-fired pizza
Sons of Eden is the partnership of winemaker Corey Ryan and viticulturist Simon Cowham, whose shared passion for the Barossa has earned the winery a reputation for producing wines of exceptional character and regional authenticity. Romulus is sourced from treasured old vine Shiraz vineyards, where decades of vine age deliver remarkable fruit concentration, complexity and depth while retaining the elegance that defines the finest modern Barossa Shiraz.
The 2023 vintage provided excellent growing conditions across the Barossa Valley, allowing the old vines to produce fruit of outstanding balance and intensity. Careful vineyard management, gentle extraction and maturation in premium French oak preserve the individuality of the vineyard, creating a Shiraz that combines richness with freshness and beautifully refined structure.
The colour is a deep crimson purple with an almost opaque core. Aromas of blackberry, satsuma plum and black cherry are layered with dark chocolate, liquorice, star anise and hints of violets and cedar. The palate is rich and concentrated yet remarkably poised, with succulent dark fruits wrapped around velvety tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of cocoa, spice, espresso and subtle savoury earthiness emerge through a long, seamless finish that reflects the pedigree of these remarkable old vines.
A superb match for slow roasted lamb shoulder, chargrilled rib eye, smoky beef brisket, roasted field mushrooms with thyme or mature cheddar. While immensely enjoyable now after decanting, this beautifully structured Shiraz has the balance to cellar confidently for fifteen to twenty years.
