Bright red and youthful in the glass. Lifted aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, Asian spice, dried herbs, bramble and violets. Bright, mouth-filling, firm and layered. Full of plush dark fruits, grippy, grainy tannin and perky acidity. This has real life, spark and purity and will cellar for many years to come. Drink 2025–2040.

The 2023 Cabernets, a blend of all five Bordeaux varieties, is well built, offering a complex array of aromas to start: blackberry and licorice lifted by gravel, cedar and a touch of cigar box. The palate is mid weight, with a lattice of firm tannins providing a strong base to gravelly tones lifted by violet whispers. Unique and likely to build nicely over the next decade. Drink 2027–2036.

The 2023 Cabernets comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, and the wine leads with a nose of green herbs, dark berry fruits, licorice, cocoa and freshly turned earth/bramble. In the mouth, the wine is medium-bodied and structural, with a creamy middle palate and finely structured finish. There are notes of graphite and lead pencil to close. This is a nice wine, from a great vintage. Drink 2025–2033.

Voyager Estate was established in 1978 on the gravelly soils of Stevens Valley in southern Margaret River, one of the coolest and most maritime-influenced parts of the region. The estate has been farming organically since 2017 and received full certification in 2023. All fruit is estate grown across five vineyards on granite and ironstone soils.
This is a true Bordeaux blend where Cabernet Sauvignon leads at 54% with a substantial 37% of Merlot alongside smaller amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Each variety is fermented separately on wild yeasts before blending, then nine months in French oak with just 10% new. Winemaker Tim Shand prefers fruit picked on the fresher side, focusing on detail and drive rather than ripeness and weight.
The 2023 season was outstanding. Warm days with cool evenings preserving acidity and a late harvest under clear skies delivering excellent flavour development.
Vibrant ruby, the nose is perfumed and inviting with aromas of plum, mulberry, cherry, pepper and clove spice. The palate is juicy and generous with velvety tannins and a subtly spiced oak finish. Elegant, composed and delicious.
Try with slow-roasted lamb, Korean braised short ribs or a ragu with good pasta.
Drink now through 2033.
