The 2024 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Blanc (two hectares in Puligny and one hectare in Chassagne) has a wonderful nose that is more Village or Premier Cru in complexity: mineral driven, beautifully defined and quite intense. The palate is very well balanced with green apple and freshly sliced pear, just a background note of praline then quite a spicy finish that lingers in the mouth. This punches well above its weight.
89-91 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
Brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet have turned their family domaine in Dezize-lès-Maranges into one of the Côte de Beaune’s most coveted names. Their Bourgogne Blanc is the wonderfully sensible way into a rather insensible cult following, made with the same meticulous vineyard work and restrained cellar approach as the grander wines. It’s a bottle that shows just how much character can sit beneath the humble Bourgogne label when the people making it are this serious.
The 2024 vintage was a difficult, low-yielding year across Burgundy, with cool, wet conditions demanding enormous effort in the vineyards. For careful growers, the small crop produced whites with freshness, perfume and excellent definition. The Bachelets lean into that energy, using thoughtful élevage to add texture while keeping the wine bright and beautifully uncluttered.
Pale straw with green highlights, the nose opens with lemon, crisp pear and white peach before citrus blossom and fresh almond appear. With air come grapefruit peel, a flicker of flint and gentle brioche. The palate is lively yet nicely textured, with crunchy orchard fruit and citrus carried by bright acidity. A little creaminess fills the middle before lemon oil, salted almond and a stony note take over on the clean, mouthwatering finish.
Try this with prawn gyoza, Korean seafood pancakes, fish tacos with jalapeño and lime, crispy chicken bao or grilled halloumi with lemon and oregano. Our pick is the seafood pancake crisp edges, prawns, spring onion and a little chilli against cold, citrusy Burgundy could make the Bourgogne label feel rather irrelevant.
