Sourced from a block of 1990s-planted pinot noir in the Coal River Valley. Woah! I'm loving those struck-flint reduction tones in this year's release. I realise they can be polarising, but they make me go all gooey-eyed, especially like here, when they are matched to a core of pure red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry fruits. There's hints of souk-like spice, leaf litter, pomegranate, amaro, orange blossom, roast game, crushed stone and an expression of citrus oil. Finely structured and a wicked saline seam of acidity, with boundless energy and verve at the back end. Drink to 2041.

95 points Dave Brookes for Halliday Wine Companion, August 2026

Deep red tinged with purple; lovely smoked meats, fivespice and charcuterie layered over dark cherry fruit on the nose, the palate elegantly medium weighted and soft textured with refinement and balance. Tannins are ample and supple. Drinking beautifully right now, but will also cellar well. Drink to 2036.

95 points Huon Hooke for The Real Review, July 2026

The fruit for this wine was grown in two blocks of Dalrymple’s Pontos Hills vineyard in southern Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. A warm and dry vintage provided ripe fruit aromas and flavours, with grapes picked in superb condition.

The hand-picked and destemmed grapes were fermented with a 20% whole bunch inclusion, with regular hand plunging and pumping over of the must. The pressed wine was settled prior to a 10-month period of malolactic fermentation and maturation in French oak barriques of which 30% were new.
