It comes across as rather polished yet so appealing. Lovely aromatics with red roses, lavender, Middle Eastern spices and cocoa. A whorl of black and blue fruits, all juicy and tangy, fills out the fuller-bodied palate, as do raw-silk tannins and fresh acidity. It’s rather delicious.
95 points Special Value Jane Faulkner Halliday Wine Companion March 2026
Deep Woods Estate Shiraz et Al is a vibrant Margaret River red that brings together Shiraz (86%), Malbec (9%) and Grenache (5%). The addition of Malbec is what gives it that x-factor over varietal Shiraz wines from this region: nice high notes of blue fruits and a floral violet lift. It's spicy and at the same time refreshing, smooth with silky tannins.
Massively drinkable. It’s juicy, soft and bright, with silky tannins and just enough grip to make it food friendly. A good choice for a simple fresh BBQ feast: something chargrilled, roast spuds and a spicy slaw. Or maybe when you just feel like a glass of red wine?
Grapes were destemmed and vinified separately (some whole bunch fermentation on select Shiraz parcels though). Pump overs and racking were employed to extract fine tannin, colour and vibrant fruit characters. The skins were pressed after 12-14 days, and the wine fermented to dryness in stainless steel tanks. Each parcel was then racked to French oak barrels (15% new), for a 6-9 month refinement before blending.
