If someone offers you a glass of this chardonnay, take it with gratitude, as it’s delicious. There’s a neat balance of citrus, mainly grapefruit and lemon, to the textural palate, a little creamy lees in the mix and fine acidity throughout. Drink 2026-2031.
91 points Special Value Jane Faulkner Halliday Wine Companion March 2026
The 2025 Deep Woods Estate Chardonnay is a great expression of Margaret River and the Gin Gin clone of Chardonnay, striking the perfect balance between finesse and flavour. The consistency of quality from this region as well as this producer is simply remarkable.
Sourced from a selection of northern and southern vineyards, the wine was fermented in a combination of seasoned and new oak barrels, using only indigenous yeasts. With minimal fining and no acid additions, this Chardonnay showcases Deep Woods’ dedication to site selection and pure varietal expression.
Shows stone fruit, grapefruit and subtle biscuit characters. Generous preserved lemon characters lead the flavours, with a nice fresh tension from coastal vineyards providing freshness. No need to cellar this wine, but a couple of years won't hurt either. Would sit well with creamy seafood pastas, or maybe lemon and herb flavoured roast chicken.
