Domaine Auvigue has deep roots in the Mâconnais, with the family working among the limestone hills around Solutré and Fuissé for generations. Their approach has long been centred on Chardonnay and the individual character of southern Burgundy, where warmer conditions produce generous fruit while limestone soils retain the freshness that keeps the wines lively.
Moulin du Pont is a classic Mâcon Villages expression, sitting comfortably between simple Bourgogne Blanc and the richer wines of the region’s more celebrated appellations. The 2024 vintage suits the style particularly well, giving Chardonnay bright citrus and orchard fruit with a cooler, more energetic feel than the warmer years. It is a wine for drinking rather than contemplating for hours, but there is plenty going on.
Pale straw gold with aromas of white peach, Nashi pear and lemon, moving towards grapefruit, acacia blossom and a little fresh almond. The palate is supple and gently rounded through the middle, with peach and citrus balanced by lively acidity. A touch of chalk, almond meal and subtle savoury texture appears towards the finish, leaving it clean, dry and inviting.
Garlic prawns with parsley and lemon would be spot on, alongside grilled snapper, crab and zucchini linguine, roast chicken with tarragon or cauliflower gratin with Gruyère. Our pick is the crab linguine, with lemon zest, chilli and plenty of good olive oil.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2031.
