2024 Domenica Nebbiolo, Beechworth

The latest release of the Nebbiolo from Domenica, with the previous vintages all rated between 95 and 97 points by Halliday.

“As a result of the low yield, the wine has a natural density and quiet depth. Aromatically the fruit is amplified, and while currently the primary driver of the wine, it can be expected to mature into a confident and classic wine of structure and power. The low yield fruit intensity along with the warmth of the ripening season has ensured early approachability, but the greatest rewards from this wine will undoubtedly come from time in the cellar.”

Domenica sits 460m atop the granite ridge southwest of Beechworth. The four-hectare vineyard is planted to Chardonnay, Nebbiolo, Shiraz and Gamay, and was first planted in 1996, with the first wines under the label appearing in 2012.

Owner Peter Graham lives and breathes the site, his wines aiming to simply reflect the excellent vineyard. He presides over the oldest Nebbiolo vines in Beechworth, growing in a cool, protected southern corner of the property and giving tiny yields of intensely flavoured fruit.

The 2024 season started with spring frosts that significantly affected these vines, reducing the yields dramatically. The remaining season was trouble-free, with adequate rain through summer leading to a dry ripening phase in Autumn which saw fruit harvested mid-April, as is typical for this site.
