The Dönnhoff family have shaped the modern reputation of the Nahe for more than two centuries, with Cornelius Dönnhoff continuing the remarkable work of his father, Helmut. Revered for producing some of Germany's finest Rieslings, the estate combines meticulous vineyard care with minimal intervention, allowing each site to express its own distinctive character with clarity and precision.
Höllenpfad, meaning "Path to Hell", is one of the Nahe's most dramatic Grosses Gewächs vineyards, its striking red sandstone soils producing Rieslings of exceptional energy, mineral tension and depth. The combination of steep slopes, ideal exposure and ancient soils creates a wine that is both powerful and finely detailed, capturing the unique personality of this outstanding site.
The colour is a brilliant pale gold with youthful green highlights. Aromas of lime zest, white peach and pink grapefruit are layered with white flowers, crushed stone and delicate smoky notes. The palate is vibrant and beautifully textured, combining citrus and stone fruits with crystalline acidity and a distinctive mineral core. Layers of saline freshness and subtle spice build through the long, poised finish, reflecting the pedigree of this remarkable vineyard.
Magnificent with lobster, turbot, roasted scallops, white asparagus or grilled lobster with herb butter. Although already captivating, this is a Riesling with the balance and structure to evolve gracefully for two decades or more.
