My word this wine has some tension. That tussle between acidity and sweetness is bang on in this vintage. It feels cool and classic. Green apple, perfume, the stony character, all just so. It has crunch and energy, and the finish is chalky, slightly spicy, and very long. A great vintage for this wine. Drink: 2025-2040+

The spring blossom aromas leap out of the glass. Vibrant and elegant on the light-bodied palate. Dangerous vitality in the long, silky finish. As delicious as this is now, just wait for what happens with a few years of bottle age.

The 2024 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett is tender with citrus on the nose, shy but fresh. The super-slender palate is lightness itself, a veil of lemon spray, stone and ease. It is wonderful, animating and weightless. (Off-dry). Drinking Window: 2025 - 2050

Wehlener Sonnenuhr is one of the Mosel’s most celebrated vineyards, a steep, slate rich amphitheatre that captures light and warmth while holding onto piercing acidity. Dr Loosen, under Ernst Loosen, has been a driving force in showcasing just how expressive these sites can be, working with old, ungrafted vines to produce Rieslings that balance delicacy with intensity.
The 2024 Kabinett is all about lift and finesse. Aromatics are bright and filigree, green apple, white peach and lime blossom, with a touch of fresh herbs and that unmistakable slatey note that feels almost like cool stone after rain.
It dances rather than sits. Light in weight but full of flavour, with a gentle sweetness that is perfectly offset by racy acidity. Citrus, orchard fruit and a hint of honey glide through, never heavy, always in motion, finishing long, clean and mouthwatering.
This is where it gets fun at the table. Think sashimi with a touch of wasabi, spicy Thai green curry, or crispy pork with chilli and lime. It’s just as good with a simple apple tart, fresh goat cheese with herbs, or even salty fried chicken where the contrast really lights it up.
Drinking beautifully now for its freshness and energy, but it will evolve gracefully over ten to fifteen years, picking up more honeyed, toasty complexity.
There’s a sense of weightlessness here, a wine that feels effortless but delivers layer after layer if you pay attention.
