Faiveley Mercurey Clos Rochette Blanc combines vibrant citrus, creamy texture and chalky minerality in a refined white Burgundy.
This east-facing monopole that has been owned by the Faiveley family since 1933 sits near the La Framboisière monopole on the north side of Mercurey. It starts with a hint of reduction that shakes off quickly with a few swirls. Yellow plums and cherries meld with vanilla bean and warm crêpe. Jérôme says that he loves to put this is a Côte d’Or blind tasting because people often call is a Meursault.

Notes of petrol, Granny Smith apple and lemon zest are complemented by racy, delicious and attractively textured middle weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the lightly rustic and sneaky long finish. This is a very good Mercurey blanc and given the typically low price, offers very fine value.

Clos Rochette is one of Mercurey's finest white wine vineyards, where limestone rich soils and an elevated position produce Chardonnay of purity, texture and impressive mineral drive. While the Côte Chalonnaise is often celebrated for its outstanding value, vineyards such as Clos Rochette consistently demonstrate that the region is capable of producing white Burgundy of genuine pedigree. Maison Joseph Faiveley, founded in 1825, continues its seven generation tradition of crafting wines that faithfully express the individuality of Burgundy's great terroirs.
The 2024 vintage provided ideal conditions for Chardonnay, with warm, settled weather balanced by cool nights that preserved freshness and aromatic definition. Gentle pressing, careful lees ageing and restrained French oak maturation have enhanced texture without compromising the vineyard's vibrant fruit or distinctive mineral character.
Pale gold with brilliant green highlights, the bouquet is expressive and inviting, revealing aromas of ripe lemon, white peach and crisp pear layered with acacia blossom, toasted hazelnut and a subtle flinty edge. Hints of brioche and crushed oyster shell emerge with time, adding further complexity. The palate is beautifully proportioned, combining generous citrus and orchard fruit with creamy texture, bright acidity and a chalky mineral backbone. Long, poised and beautifully detailed, the finish lingers with saline freshness and refined oak spice.
Enjoy alongside lobster with herb butter, pan seared scallops, roast chicken with tarragon, grilled John Dory or a creamy mushroom and leek tart. Delicious from release, this finely crafted Chardonnay has the balance and structure to reward careful cellaring over the next decade.
