Old vine Pinot Noir from Mercurey, balancing vibrant fruit, savoury depth and classic Burgundy elegance in every glass.
Starting with a terrific nose of succulent red cherries and plump strawberries, this wine shows exuberance through and through. Nicely mid-weight on the palate, the crunchy tannins are gently amplified by the high-toned acidity. The oak is split between 25 percent new then once- and twice-used barrels, and the wine has easily digested it. This is lightness and power wrapped into "glou glou" packaging. This can come from up to 20 parcels, depending on the year. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Apr 2026.
89 points Jasper Morris MW Inside Burgundy
Old vines bring an extra dimension of concentration and character to Mercurey, one of the Côte Chalonnaise's most respected Pinot Noir appellations. The Vieilles Vignes cuvée showcases the richness and depth that mature vineyards can achieve while retaining the freshness and elegance that have made Maison Joseph Faiveley one of Burgundy's most admired family estates since 1825.
The fruit is sourced from carefully tended mature vines planted in limestone and clay soils, where naturally low yields produce berries of impressive flavour intensity and balance. The outstanding 2024 vintage delivered beautifully ripe fruit with vibrant acidity, allowing the wine to express both the generosity of Mercurey and the precision of its terroir. Thoughtful maturation in French oak adds subtle texture while preserving the purity of the fruit.
Bright ruby with youthful garnet hues, the bouquet opens with aromas of black cherry, raspberry and redcurrant complemented by violet, gentle baking spice and a touch of cedar. As the wine evolves, hints of forest floor and crushed stone emerge, adding savoury complexity. The palate is supple yet structured, with vibrant red berry fruit supported by silky tannins, fresh acidity and a fine mineral thread. The finish is long, poised and beautifully balanced, lingering with spice, florals and understated oak.
Pair with roast duck, grilled pork loin, herb roasted chicken, mushroom pithivier or a lentil and mushroom casserole. Equally enjoyable in its youth or after several years in the cellar, this is a classic expression of Mercurey from one of Burgundy's benchmark producers.
