Calalenta has become one of Fantini’s most loved wines for good reason, capturing the relaxed coastal lifestyle of Abruzzo in a bright, dangerously drinkable rosato. The name comes from the local tradition of night harvesting, with fruit picked in the cool evening hours to preserve freshness, perfume and delicate aromatics. Fantini has built a strong reputation across Italy for producing expressive wines that massively overdeliver for the price, and this rosato continues that tradition beautifully.

The 2024 vintage is pale, vibrant and packed with energy. Fresh strawberry, watermelon and blood orange notes leap from the glass alongside hints of rose petals and Mediterranean herbs. There is a lovely crunch and brightness to the palate, balanced by a subtle creamy texture that keeps the wine feeling generous rather than lean. Crisp acidity and a faint saline edge carry the flavours through a refreshing finish that practically begs for another sip.

This is exactly the sort of rosé you want chilled within arm’s reach on a warm afternoon. Fresh prawns, grilled calamari or zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta would all be superb alongside it. It also works beautifully with prosciutto, watermelon salad, sushi or simple wood fired pizza shared with friends outdoors. There is an effortless charm to this wine that makes it incredibly easy to enjoy, especially when the sun is out and nobody is in a hurry.
