2024 Frogmore Creek Chardonnay, Coal River Valley

A memorable name – Frogmore – comes together with a memorable young Chardonnay from southern Tasmania’s Cambridge area. It fits that Goldilocks wine style – just right – whether it’s depth of flavour, the level of oak contribution, bright acidity or the ripeness and freshness of stone fruits and citrus. All round well-composed with aromas of white peach, nectarine, citrus lemon, almond meal, roasted nuts and hints of savoury preserved lemon and spice. The palate is brisk and clean, tight and sunny with appealing textural and leesy almond mealiness properties. Overall, there is a lovely freshness which prevails here which is so enjoyable now, but comes with the ability for further ageing. The finish highlights a tight focus on citrus as a lasting farewell. Drink to 2032.

Pale straw in the glass with aromas of citrus, grapefruit and white peach along with hints of soft spice, vanillin, white flowers, nougat, cashewy oak and crushed stone. Crisp and refreshing on the palate with a brisk mineral cadence and a flair of roast hazelnuts. This makes for sleek, energetic drinking for those that seek a focused style of chardonnay with plenty of drive. Drink to 2032.

The Frogmore Creek vineyard in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley was established in the mid-1990s by the Scherer family. It has been part of the Hill-Smith family’s portfolio of vineyards and brands since December 2012 and has since expanded to include two other nearby sites. Chief winemaker Alain Rousseau has led the work at the winery for more than 20 years.
