Dry, crisp and refreshing Tasmanian with pears, grapefruit and saline acidity
Pale straw with bright nashi pear, citrus and light tropical fruits, hints of clotted cream, riverstone, white flowers and sea spray. Dry and crisp on the palate with flavours of poached pear and grapefruit, a bright saline line of acidity and a refreshing finish that ticks all the right boxes. Drink to 2030.
90 points Dave Brookes for Halliday Wine Companion, March 2026
42 Degrees South wines are made by Frogmore Creek, a vineyard in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley established in the mid-1990s by the Scherer family. It has been part of the Hill-Smith family’s portfolio of vineyards and brands since December 2012 and has since expanded to include two other nearby sites. Chief winemaker Alain Rousseau has led the work at the winery for more than 20 years.
The name for these wines represents the central latitude of Tasmania. The wines are easy drinking and fruit driven varietal expressions to be enjoyed a year or two from release.
The grapes for this wine were de-stemmed, crushed and de-juiced with light pressure prior to cold settling overnight. The juice was then racked into a stainless steel and inoculated with as elect yeast strain for fermentation at controlled temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees. The wine was kept on lees for eight weeks for enhanced roundness and cold stabilised and filtered ahead of bottling.
